- Type : 0-4-0 Tender Engine, Maker - Mamod
Modified
from a factory built Mamod engine, high pressure safety valve, three wick meths
burner, manual regulator, water filling system, replacement wheels and radio control housed in a
tender. This engine is 32mm gauge and hence cannot be run over CSLR metals. The
boiler has been boiled dry in the past and is no longer serviceable. This loco
has now been sold to another railway operator. Go to the
Rickety Shed Light
Railway and look up No.10 - William.

- Type : 0-4-0 Diesel Shunter, Maker - IP Engineering
(kit)
This
is an IP "Punch" kit, made up using their heavy duty chassis in place of the
standard item to give the exposed fly-rods and deeper buffer beams. This
arrangement allows space for the motor to sit horizontally between the axles - the under-bonnet area is therefore free for six AA Ni-MH
cells which gives the engine a respectable running speed with good pulling
power. This loco is excellent at shunting work or propelling the works train on
maintenance runs. More on Ben.

- Type : 0-4-0 Saddle Tank, Maker - Roundhouse
A
2001 "Bertie" from the Roundhouse basic range, this is a slip eccentric, gas
fired loco with additional handrails and a brass dome. "Karen" has quickly proved an excellent
performer and capable of very refined running.
Very little modification was originally performed on this loco, save for the fitting
of D-couplers to match the rest of the stock and handrails to the tanks and smokebox. "Karen" boasts a lady driver in
the cab, the cause for many a comment at exhibitions. These changes have
gradually been added to see more.

- Type : 0-6-0 Tank Engine, Maker - Roundhouse
A
1999 "Lady Anne" from the Roundhouse classic range, "The Chief" has fully
reversible Walschaerts valve gear, gas firing and radio control. Additions
include a brass safety valve cover, working headlight and steam whistle. A
Westinghouse pump is fitted and now a set of Accucraft Chopper couplers. This loco
has many hours running to date with no problems at all. It is an excellent
hauler and has produced runs of 45 minutes at exhibitions without attention to
gas or water. Details of the modifications are here.

- Type : 0-4-0 Well Tank, Maker - LGB
An
example of the famous LGB Stainz locomotive from the starter set. This loco has
been repainted in a darker green and the chassis matt black. A small
modification has been performed to fit a switch beneath the loco in order that
the track pickups can be isolated. This is to allow running on battery power via
the accessory socket without back-feeding the track. Since track power has been
abandoned on the CSLR, the pickup skates and plungers will be removed at the
next workshop session. See the Power Van (green in
this shot - now repainted). This loco has a (thankfully) switchable chuff sound
built in.

- Type : 2-6-0 Tank, Maker - LGB
The
second of the LGB motive power units on the CSLR. This engine is again
modified as "Sir Frederick" with an isolating switch but not painted. The engine
is overall original black but has had the number plates replaced with CSLR
pattern. A set of British-style dart handles have been added to the smokebox
door. This loco has been converted to battery power and the pickup skates and wheel
plungers have now been removed - this had the added advantage of
stopping an annoying squeak! Six AA cells are
used inside the boiler, along with an M-Tronik speed controller and a 40MHz AM
radio receiver. A charging socket is hidden behind the air tank on the LHS, the
tank easily unclips to give access to the socket.
The large weights were removed from the interior space to release the
area for the extra kit. The M-Tronik is connected directly to the motor, with fly
leads back to the LGB circuit board for the directional lighting. The smoke unit is
removed primarily to reduce the power draw on the battery. Removal of the weight has reduced the traction, but the loco still
hauls half a dozen bogies with ease, at a good rate - this being a useable
length train on the CSLR.

No.7 "Dean B"
- Type : 0-4-0 Diesel Shunter, Maker - LGB
An
LGB industrial diesel type in Fire Brigade livery. This locomotive carries two
flashing blue lights on the roof and was named "Dean B" following the sale of
No.1, the original "Dean". This loco has been
modified to remove the track power pickups and carries six rechargeable AA NiMH
cells in the dummy water tank. These are wired to the motor via two way centre
off switch enabling it to run unattended. Feed to the original lighting board
ensures continued operation of the lights.
A
good couple of hours run is available in this configuration without recharge,
pulling a reasonable train of four hoppers. This locomotive is very powerful for
its size, and will recover No.3 or No.4 from most parts of the garden, should
they run out of steam!

- Type : 2-8-0 Tender Loco, Maker - CSLR Works
This loco
is now a reliable part of the CSLR roster. It
made it's first public debut at Chichester on 23rd October 2004, and then
the following week in Exeter. It is had whistle fitted inside the cab
(radio controlled) and the paint finish is now corrected and good. No.8 was
entered into the MOTY competition at the 2006 16mmngm AGM and won the Roundhouse
Trophy.
Inspired by the Bagnall 2-6-2
types (see Roundhouse/GRS Gunga-Din), this loco
is the largest of the CSLR
engines with fully radio controlled reversible Walschaerts valve gear, gas firing
and carries additional battery power in the tender to run train lighting.
